Find #1: Orange-Amber Glass Pumpkin

This blown-glass pumpkin has the traditional shape without feeling like traditional Halloween decor. The orange-amber glass gives it a warm glow and makes it an easy addition to a shelf, mantel or table without taking over the whole room.

Find #2: Ghost Cat Candle Holders

Okay, these are where the list stops pretending to be entirely sophisticated.

The set includes three ceramic ghost cats that double as candle holders. They still fit the mostly black-and-neutral look, but they bring in exactly the kind of weird little Halloween detail I want mixed in with the prettier stuff.

Find #3: Black Metal Taper Candle Holders

A set of three simple black metal candle holders is one of those things you can use well beyond Halloween. For October, though, add black taper candles and suddenly they feel appropriately dramatic.

The varying heights also make them easy to group together on a dining table, mantel or sideboard.

Find #4: Black Cheesecloth Table Runner

This might be one of the easiest ways to make an everyday table look a little haunted.

The black gauze has an intentionally loose, textured look, so you can drape it down the center of a table or layer it underneath candles and pumpkins. It's 10 feet long, which also gives you plenty to work with if you like the more gathered, messy look.

Find #5: Black Taper Candles

If we're doing black candle holders, obviously we're going all the way.

These 12-inch black taper candles come in a pack of four and are unscented. They're simple, tall and dramatic without needing skulls, spiders or anything else added to them.

Find #6: Velvet Pumpkins

Velvet pumpkins are a nice middle ground if you still want pumpkins around but don't necessarily want everything bright orange.

This handmade set includes six pumpkins, and the soft velvet texture gives them a slightly more elevated look than the usual plastic Halloween variety. Mix them into a table display or scatter a few onto shelves instead of keeping the whole set together.

Find #7: 3D Black Bats

I love these because you can make them as subtle or completely unhinged as you'd like.

The set comes with 120 black bats in four sizes, so a small group climbing one wall can look surprisingly clean and modern. Or you can release all 120 into your house. I'm not here to tell you how to live.

Find #8: Gold Glass Flameless Candles

These bring the warm, flickering glow without requiring you to keep track of ten actual flames around the house.

The set of three battery-operated pillar candles has gold glass exteriors and includes a remote. They're especially good for mixing into darker Halloween decor because the warm glass keeps all that black from feeling too flat.

Find #9: Black Forsythia Wreath

Halloween wreaths can get very Halloween very quickly. This one skips the giant signs, orange bows and glitter-covered spiders in favor of black branches, leaves and berries.

It's still dark enough to feel seasonal, but from a distance it almost reads as a dramatic botanical wreath rather than dedicated Halloween decor.

Find #10: Black Cat Vase

And finally: the weird one. It's a nine-inch black ceramic vase. It's also a cat.

This is exactly the kind of Halloween find I love because it's strange enough to be fun but doesn't necessarily have to disappear into a storage bin on November 1. Add dried stems or dark florals for Halloween, then keep your bizarre little cat vase around for however long you want.
